Microteaching rations
1. State Benchmark:
2. Objectives: At the end of this
lesson the students will be able to:
a. Use the Pearson square to balance a ration
b. Use excel spread sheet to
compare rations with pearson square
c. Explain how different rations can cost less
but accomplish the same thing
3. Materials and Recourses:
a. Excel sheet of feed
b. Excel sheet for pearson square
c. Class assignment
d. Link to video
e. Computers
f. excel
4. Introduction
a. Students will be assigned one problem to be
taken home. Then they will watch the video link on my website explaining how to
use the pearson square to balance a ration. Then they will try to balance the
ration a gave them. When class starts we will go over this activity to start
off the day. This will be a review from the video showing them in person how to
solve the ration. Also will answer questions to make sure everyone understands
how to do it.
5. Instructional Process:
a. I will hand out the worksheets to the class. I
will already have the excel spreadsheet opened on the smartboard. I will show
the class how to plug in the formulas to make the calculation easier. Each
student will get on a computer and plug in the formulas also.
b. I will go over the first
problem with the class showing them how the excel program works once the
formulas have been put in. Then the class will have 5 mins to finish the rest
of the problems.
c. After the students have finished the assignment
I will show the class how to combine two rations from the assignment into one
ration to achieve another goal.
6. Closure
a. Will close class by slight discussion on how
using different ingredient can accomplish the same nutrient goals but at a
different price. Why that might be important for a producer of livestock.
7. Assessment
a. Students will be assigned a take
home assessment of picking 3 feed stuffs from the list and balancing a ration
for 900 lbs steer. This will require them to use what they learned today in
class. Will hand out paper at end of class. Will be able to assess how well the
lesson went off of how well they do on this.
8. Modifications/ Accommodations
a.
9. Reflection
a. The lesson plan seemed to work
good. But the time allotment might need to be changed. The number of questions
on the assignment may need to be lesson to allow students to get them done. This
will allow for me to finish the lesson.
b. How well the use of
this technology may support your teaching strategies in this activity.
The use of excel in this activity helped with the teaching
activity. It allowed for students to quickly compare several rations together
and prices to see how different ingredients are going to cost more.
c. How effectively the
use of this technology may enhance students' understanding of and learning from
your particular content in this activity.
I think the technology was effective in enhancing the understanding
because it allowed students to quickly compare rations. Instead of doing all
the work by hand they could plug them into excel. This allows the students to
be able to work through many ingredients to accomplish the goal of comparing
prices.
